Two weeks before the day of finale presentation En Abdullah Md Yunos aka Encik Lah and Pn Rusilawati had a two day sessions with us on the topic of "Powerful Presentation Skills"
The important thing that was reminded to us again and again is that we have to know the topic to be presented very well beforehand so that it will help and relect our credibility when we are in front of the audience.
Our finale presentation on the last day of the communication module (28/12/2010) should be on our proposed product/project that worth 30 million ringgit. Basically, it was like a mock proposal and presentation that you have to deliver in order to gain interest and convince the investors for that 30 million ringgit. Since it is a mock presentation, we can not actually fully-utilized the adviced given by Encik Lah and Pn Rusilawati. We really did not do the actual market survey or budget, so, most of us had problems in dealing with our fears. What if the things that we presented do not make sense at all? What if the budget is not enough to run the business? And the ‘what if’s lists goes on and on.
After all, we already had done it. My group, XX Power had come up with the an eco-pineapple leaf fibre(eco-PALF). It is a fibre derived from the leaves of pineapple that usually are not use for any purposes and are treated as waste. Usually they just burned it. Initially, we try to find any agriculture waste that can be turn into a 'green product', we landed on doing baggase(sago waste that can be use to soak oil spill and degrades the oil) but later we decided not to use that baggase since it is already being well commercialised in the USA.
Instead of opting for a specific product like PALF diapers, we decided to be the producer of the eco-PALF and our target are the medium sized companies that is currently using synthetic fibres. I personally thinks it is much better to opt for the former than the latter but other group mates said it is better to do it that way.
I was kind of disappointed that I am not able to catch up with other groups presentation (except for Futura and Bioself) since I had to leave for an interview later that evening. Each time we had representatives from each group to come in front and explain their product in terms of the subjects learned on that day, I have to constantly ask my neighbour, P-nat. And I kept mixing them up. It's just a matter of time for me to learn which product belongs to which group. Well, I realized that most of the product are eco-friendly-using-waste-and-turn-into-wealth-stuffs. It's the most crucial thing to be addressed in our scientific world, I guess.
