Two days session with Dr Roland Xavier on Creativity & Innovation are completely different to what we had with Prof Barjoyai. Personally, I think the trainer is more criticizing (although not always positive) to our ideas compared to Prof Barjoyai whivh I noticed only applauded for the ideas that he thinks as a marvellous or completely an outstanding beyond aour imagination. There are pros and cons to have people criticise you, whether you became negative and afraid to give more ideas or you become better since you can improve in which area you have weaknesses.
Interesting or Important?
I think previous lessons with Prof Barjoyai had made us not to be afraid of thinking differently. However, after that step, we had to focus whether our ideas are workable and worthy. Let's take an example. Let say, you are going to open a business. And chose to open a restaurant and wanted to offer traditional food that is so popular among the citizens. To rate is it a worthy decision, think whether it is an interesting or important ideas? The answer is it is INTERESTING. Interesting because customers always have choices not to opt for your business because there are thousands of other restaurants are offering the same things as yours, and it is easily being copied by other restaurant-owners.
So what are important ideas? The example are like opening an institution that can check whether foods contain halal product, opening a learning institution that can educate children rather than exam oriented one or open a nursery for the elderly so that they can hang around there during the day and can go home to spend time with family at night. The point is, to make the ideas IMPORTANT, you have to come out with solutions of the problems that are currently being sought by the customers. And you can become the big players rather than being a competitor, because the business world is tough, and the chances to survive is very low.
Well, one thing is that I think Dr Xavier taught our project is an important idea.. that's a good one. =)
