Conducting Effective Meeting

The trainer for this session is Assoc. Prof Mohd Khir Ashari. As I had expected, he would use a different approach since this is our first time to have a proffessor teaching us. The content of the subjects might be boring and mundane to most of us, however, I don't think it is entirely useless.

I heard some mumbles from other trainees that they think the content is irrelevant to us as newbies in the working world. A guy actually did not mumbled. Anyone can barely heard what he thinks. Well, I am in no position to comment on his opinion but I think the content was very informative and educative as well.

The reference used by Prof Khir is Meetings-Their Law and Practices by Lawton, Rigby and Hall and the examples used was how to conduct an anual general meeting of big companies. New things that I learned are what are our rights during a meeting, we should propose a motion and once presented it is belong to the meeting to decide on the motion. The motion itself would be the resolution and even the proposer could not cancel the motion after it is presented.

and some other things that involves formalities and professionalism.

Some might said it is irrelevant, however, we can picked up new knowledge a bit here and there. Since I had work for a month as an RA, I already had in mind that we can not expect that our work would always been about the research that we are currently doing. Sometimes our employer would need us to write a formal letter, or deal with the administration, or deal with the suppliers. So, I think, if we want to enter a big company like Sime Darby Berhad, we must prepare ourselves with whatever that comes possible. Maybe our new boss need us to make a meeting on phone with their customers. Well, it is POSSIBLE, believe me..

Start of something new

To anyone who notice something different with my blog, it is because I have shifted the blog to a new site with the same url >> thelightofmylife-hayati.blogspot.com.

It is because I personally thinks my old blog is very personal and I need a new and refresh writing of myself. Sorry to those who is currently an avid followers(if i had one).

I hope this new blog do not offend anyone or lead to misguidance.

Public Speaking...Anyone?

Written on December 7th and edited on 15th December

Speaking in front of people usually cause my stomach rumble crazily, or at least I got this instant shaking mouth or hands while delivering the speech. I personally believe I am not a good public speaker especially when it is in English and it is FORMAL.=)

However, today we had a very interesting trainer to teach us about the art of public speaking, Mr Hisham Abdul Karim. I would say that he is VERY,VERY good in Public Relation. Well, he is very good in guessing people's personality by just knowing their names and facial expression. After being asked if he is a psychic, he denied and said it was merely because of his 20 years of experience with people that made him an expert. I wish I had that quality. This makes me remember a 'K.H' because she had the same quality as well although she is only 26 years old, a lot younger than Mr Hisham. No offence Mr Hisham, I just missed my friend so much.=p

We were given a task to give a 5 minute impromptu speech on our drawing of what comes first in our mine. I was not selected or it is more appropriate to say that I did not volunteer myself to go infront for the speech. Although each of my selected friends were given last-minute instructions, I would say they had done quite well. I drew a microphone, which is the same with Nabila, one of the selected speakers.

A second task is more interesting where every group has to present an object in the most creative way. The objects given are like a box of an iPad, a squeeze ball, a brush and other things that normally used in daily lifes. All groups had done it in their own ways, mostly by acting. I was impressed of how creative we all can be actually.

The trainers made clear to us what are the common mistakes that most of us did whenever we speak. Obviously, our acting is very spontaneous but the common mistakes are like using a bad body posture, using a lot of fillers(eg. aaaaa...), reluctant to open our mouth and project the words clearly. Some were told to use wise words in order to not offend others.

Overall, there is a lot to improve and public speaking is definitely a life-long learning process for those who are not born to speak.

How to Reach an Audience through Blogging

How to Reach an Audience through Blogging
Internet writting or well-known as Blogging has become very popular among our generation nowadays. Although blogging might not have been as popular as Facebook, it does have it owns world for people who loves to write. It is like writting a diary in old times, however, it is different now that blogs are made for public review. Some people blogs for fun, some blogs to stress out or to share thoughts and some bloggers maintains their blogs for business purposes.

Blogs with may different purposes have their own circle of audience or in 'Blogger' term, it is called 'Follower'. Readers have their own preferences in reading, some might 'google' for information and land on a blog that was writting about it, however, some readers love to blog hopping for leisure. Some tips might help in order to attract people as your audience.

Networking
To at least have a visitor after a while creating a blog, sharing the blog url by publicising it might help atracting regular readers. Facebook is one of the best places. Friends on Facebook might want to know you better, so, they might click on the websites link that is available on your Facebook profile. Some bloggers like to tag others to a post that they want to share on Facebook wall and some people publicise their blogs on their Yahoo Messenger status. Another useful way is by making friends with bloggers. If you followed their blog and put up their url on one of your blog's list, they might do the same to you.

Write from your heart
Writting might be a talent but writting honestly from your heart do help in getting quality content for your own blog. It is rather appealing to have a bits of persona while reading your blog, for example, a humouros person use their own quality to atrract readers by making jokes in writting. Bloggers might want to share or promotes places/products/services that they had experienced by themselves. Readers will find this helpful and would again seek for any new thoughts or review from you from time to time.

Keeps Your Content Simple yet Informative
If you try to be attractive by putting a very colourful layout, or too edgy widgets and advertisement, think twice. Sometimes it can be really anoyying because it may takes time to load your pages. Readers want to get into the content of your blog, thus, widgets and ads should be optimize not maximize.

Blogging may pleased yourself however, you have to please the reader in order so that they now your's exist.

Postgraduate

Alhamdulillah

It have been so long since my last entry. My brain has been drained out of ideas to write something, and now as a learning process in my training programme, I was advised to write a new entry. My graduation ceremony had been a nice experience, I learned how foreign university held their formal event which is very interesting and bizarre to any typical Malaysians I think. You might wonder why, but, to give an idea, my elder sister kept babbling once a while that it's like watching Harry Potter movie. I don't have any photos with me right now, because I don't have any idea that I have to update my blog today. Unprepared for this you know, so I am quite nervous because someone might have been reading it now I guess.

However, after the end of ceremony, I remembered Eternal Garden's post about her graduation day and how she reflects about how are we going to feel during the judgment Day? We will receive our FINAL result and unveil where our final DESTINATION should be. How foolish am I to be so excited for only a piece of paper that granted me a qualification to work? Let's make this an effort to remind ourself each day that one day we will also receive the book of deeds, depends on which hand you will receive, either right or left? Remember that Allah swt. had revealed to us about this in Surah Al-Haqqah:

'So as for he who is given his record(of deeds) in his right hand, he will say, "Here read my record!Indeed I was certain that I would be meeting my account(reckoning)".Then he will be in blissful state. In a high garden. Whereof the clusters are in easy reach. Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.

But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say:Oh, would that I had not been given my book and knew not what my reckoning!
(Al-haqqah: 19-26)

So, why on earth I am writting like this?

I was selected to join Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Special Training(BeST) programme. Some people would say Yeay! for me and congratulate me about that. Well, after a while working as a Research Assisstant in Jabatan Syariah & Pengurusan, Academy of Islamic Studies UM, I had this feeling I should do something to land a better and biotech-related job. The RA position is a three-month contract and the salary is not that much. But I do LOVE working with Dr. Sana'a, she is very nice to me and she is very sad that I have to leave. She keep saying 'Good Job', which I think sometimes she overrated my work. I personally thinks that she put a very low expectation from her RA, previous RA was not so good RA and had had a personal problems with her(okey, bangga diri sekejap but this is what she TOLD me).

So back to BeST. It is a programme funded by BiotechCorp Sdn Bhd for fresh graduates. I got a call on Monday during work and during the time that I was doing my isthikharah to say yes or no for a marketing position in a hospital.

Okay too much of shocking news from me right now, right?
After exams finished, I spend two months at home volunteering myself to help my mom. Dia sakit kaki and masih sakit lagi. After eidul fitri, then I was serious applying for a job and interviewing. And then the job at UM, and then an offer from Metro IVF Klang. Finally, I chose BeST.

Why I chose to be in BeST? A friend who had attended BeST said I should work and give the opportunities to others (bagi chance la kat orang lain pulakk)..
Well, I chose BeST because I still think that I don't really know my one potential. I don't even know if I am good at marketing, or I just syok sendiri at all time. Maybe this is the rigth time to brush up my skills and warm up in Biotech working world. lol..=p

Okay, that's it for now. Sudah lama saya tidak tulis macam ini...=|
